Yes, I’m an ‘Orthobro.’ You have a problem with that?

I once told my priest that I wasn’t an ‘Orthobro’ but now I retract this statement. I am an Orthobro. If being an Orthobro means being a young male Orthodox Convert that pursues the truth, and has flaws common to being a 20 year old male, such as pride or lust, then yes, it’s undeniable, I’m an Orthobro.

The people spouting negativity surrounding this have never encouraged me as a man to be more Christ-like. And also, they tend to fail at defining the term, or giving specific examples of someone who fits the term.

I spent the latter part of my teenage years up to where I am now, being criticized for simply being male, white, or pursuing masculinity. I’m used to being marginalized by every institution, including religious ones. So I can see through the bullshit rhetoric.

If you showed me an example of an alternative (weaponized) definition of an Orthobro, namely one who doesn’t go to church or confess, I would condemn them on that front and sing the following chorus: Go to Church!

As for me and my (self-proclaimed) group of Orthobros, we go to church, we fall, we confess, and we seek repentance. If this is what it means to be an Orthobro, then Orthobro literally just means following Jesus.

There is a political factor worth mentioning, namely the ‘alt-right’ problem in Orthobros. I follow Solzhenitsyn personally, who shapes his socio-economic views toward Truth, which is pre-supposed by being Christian. He is an Ethno-nationalist, although a nuanced one at that. So if this is alt-right, then count me in. If alt-right means to put power over truth, then count me out. Christianity boasts in this truth: “The meek shall inherit the earth.” Not the strong. As far as my understanding of Ethnicity and why it matters, see my previous blog post.

What am I going to do now? I will openly confess: “I am an Orthobro, if you have a problem with that, then let’s discuss it.”
